Correct. There are two ways because we started with the channel property and then added the other way.

sbot is sniffing out hashtags for indexing? imo I don't care for channel property if it can't have multiples.

whatever the case, knowing how to index messages in sbot and being able to do so arbitrarily would be really great so lmk if how or when

i looked at the map, and where we were camped seems to be within or very close to the inner rainbow; we're on the western slope of the central oregon range, due east of Eugene, near cougar reservoir; I reckon a west facing high point would catch the 10 am sun, day was on pretty early; maybe hike in to a high point night prior;

we could go farther east and higher into the range; i can't find a good topographical map to look at

We re-repaired the hose, packed and decamped; watering Twinkle Van Sparkle repeatedly when chi overheated, we made it to town and paid a handy person to replace the hose; town was only ~0.00021472775008902857 light seconds from camp.

After the mechanical delay, we continued west to the coast, looked up a friend, and have received a loving warm welcome, along with access to cooking and bathing facilities the likes of which I have not experienced in basic form for roughly 9 months, spare the rare hotel or occasioned apartamento sympactico

Our return date to South California was postponed aye priori, by two weeks; ergo we stayed hither the norwest, and will stilly through the solar eclipse; howver, we were better aligned and positioned for view back at camp, and it may be overcast here by the coast, so we thinks to return and reclaim Butterfly Skatepark, if perhaps we're not too lazy, or some other high camp to the east somewhere; also, we're have not enough hot springs yet...

re: %25Cx5rr1WkEGvAC5s6CD9m11CRO5GwupP%2FnZfjrMYmy9w%3D.sha256

common radiator hose, big rupture of unknown but questionable cause; we patched hose a second time with: beer can, two plumber's hose clamps, real leather from some heeled shoes we found in camp, duct tape, and wire; this barely did anything for us, water vapor steaming out at mid to high engine temps until gone, and stoppage a must; but easy enough to pause and guzzle river water, which ran next to the road the entire distance, plus we were helped twice by friendly christians in retrieving water from their nearby house, once of which we accepted

I could not fix hose myself, b/c the original squeeze-style hose-clamp was inaccessible behind the alternator (we clamped the can around the two sides of the busted hose); the mechanic had to pull the tension-mounted alternator away to get at it; having replaced one alternator by hand in the past year, this felt like $96 USD well spent.

I also built a deck on the roof of the ship, for storage, and disseminating amplified sound, partial sound system permanently exottached; we're now getting along pretty and comfortably... vanity intact; pun intended ex post facto; for Twinkle Van Sparkle is not only a spaceship, chi's also a bandwangon...

Re: %Z5FafHWbC

a few nights ago we drove back to camp from Eugene (we only stayed one night); at the very entrance to camp, something under the hood of exploded

we had brought several days of food, so it was decided not to make an emergency out the situation yet; instead, all night we danced giant shadows upon butterfly skatepark's (BSP) cliff-side wall; next next day moved camp to across to the moss wood, which we should have done long ago - this one has an ample creek of fresh cold water, a deep empty moss covered giant tree stump for compost toilet, and is cool in afternoon

BSP is too hot during the day, and a record-breaking heatwave is coming through; another fun datum about BSP is that at night, ninja quick pitch black mice descend from the cliff, causing tiny rock slides; BSP was also nest of two wraiths, never once seen, but heard screeching back and forth to each other like no bird or owl or bat I've ever heard; and there are only two in the entire area making this noise; all night, nightmarish screech and response; i had to to cast stare at them (well, in their direction, for they were unseen in the silhouette of trees against the night sky); with a lantern on, they could see me, and they fled;

the largest beast in the area are probably ravens; it seems odd that there is not more wildlife, but it is a mountain-top, and perhaps the environment was harsher prior to becoming a reservoir. the wraiths tho...

the explosion was a radiator hose, and it was quite exploded; I attempted to patch the hose at camp with an aluminum can, iron wire, and rainbow duct tape from the art box; then we attempted to drive down the mountain in evening to test this fix; the engine quickly overheated and began clunking; whatever caused the explosion was not patchable; i have my hypothesis; we made it all the way down and out of the reservoir area, in neutral, before it stalled from overheating by the highway; possibly this act ruined the engine, kaput; had I thought better, we would have left "Twinkle Van Sparkle" to RiP 4eva up at camp

we hiked into the nearest town and and stayed at an Inn for the night; camp is a little far out to be without a supply vehicle, although we could make it work with bikes and a trailer perhaps; I have word from our fellow forest dweller, Dafydd, that they and another want to join camp. We'd all gone to Eugene together earlier.

The crew will probably stick around in difficult mode a couple days to see if camp survives and what it means for us; I may have the van towed back up there just because...

in the morning we decide to rent bikes and head back to camp with provision. well, probably...

Re: %Z5FafHWbC

In Eugene, OR now, about an hour from camp; spending a couple days here, we've left most of our stuff up at camp; hit me up if you live in Eugene, or Portland, we'd love to visit some folk and chill; I will cook your food realgood if you let me

couple pics at the end of this post (wish: sbot in the cloud that auto-seeds webtorrents w/ optional TTL)

I should take more shot of the hot spring, lake, and surrounding mountains, and the other site mentioned above; we've dubbed the sunny site "butterfly skatepark", for during the day a glitter of butterflies joyously race and swirl around the bowl riding on hot rays (the sunny camp gets too hot during the day, so we leave it to the butterflies and hit the lake or go into the woods)

Whether we stay or depart, the 2 week encampment has been a success both as-is and to better prepare for future encampments. i'd happily contribute to it's continuation cuz aforementioned sweetness of location and amenities; winter would be another tale, as this mountain must get plenty of snow, altho I don't know exactly how much - prob'ly would need fires burning 24/7 to keep the village from getting packed; i imagine they keep the roads clear tho, as we're not far from the main attraction

more exploration has discovered that these two sites are the last for a ways off this off-road; and there are only a couple below the site; this whole mountain could be fruitfully encamped; internet is the really the only missing element, assuming one day everybody has they own solar enough, or there is a communal stack;

we do get a weak cell signal (AT&T) halfway out of the reservoir area; the surrounding establishment's internets be intermittent (a good diner lies about 15-20 slow driving minutes from camp down the hwy); but internet deprivation is good too

we don't have elec yet, which is a bummer, but gonna change that asap; maybe gonna pick up some in town today if a good deal can be found on c-list, but it looks like I have to drive to portland for that... not ready for portland yet, probably not until somebodies up there offers a comfy welcome, or some other summoning; same goes for destination in Washington, so holler if you're out there!

I've been low-key seeking hot springs a long time, without much luck, so it's worth the enthusiasm; and it has been blissful AF, the meditations next level

especially cuz this is a very good one - I can miss a sulfurous spring or one that has been too "bottled up", or costs too much, is too popular, or private, so it's awesome finding one that is freely accessible (if you go before/after the federal fee troll arrives, which are the best times anyway (when it's still cool outside), or simply ignore their weak warnings - omg tickets! - and flimsy pretense of authority ;^); nudity is the norm at this one, too, FYI

there are a number of other hot springs in the area as well I have heard about from other seekers and roamers, which are even more raw, but on the map

imho, Oakland is a bust now, an expensive one; the surrounding cities are where it's at: richmond, hayward, el cerrito...

ya'll are welcome to come out and help hold down the encampment; it's only an hour from Eugene, which is super chill for getaways; I don't know about food service work out here (Eugene has a lively music scene), but an EBT card is worth USD $190 per person in food per month, and shouldn't yall be tying to make your way now as web developers? portland is probably a fine place to find contract work like that.

Re: %Z5FafHWbC

we're spending the day at the nearest site down the road; it's a shaded, mossy forest; a perfect complement to the sunny, open site we've been inhabiting;

have met so far one other forest dweller of indefinite-timeline status, and plenty campers of near and far, with respect to distance from the hot springs (i guess we're 1.25 mile)

\I'd like to score some solar panels, and a few electronic parts; the only thing bugging me is bad battery life and no power except an inverter on the van battery, and I'm not risking a no-start for some typos. yet I need to get hacking to follow through with schema. i'm not going broke and out here, no no.

but we're hardly stranded. We have a large whiteboard at the opening of our camp that has so far been enough signal to passing campsite seekers,. OTOH, we could easily change spots or come back to the same ones again, it seems, as few semi-permanent types of come our way, and we can wait out the resters.

we may option to hide stuff away in the woods for return to Oregon, which I expect to be more often, or at least a few more times over the next year. southern california to central oregon is a pretty circuit. and we're due back in San Diego for a date mid-August.

@8Qee0I/...

we are only two right now, me and a partner, but we have some friends in the area who may be induced to

I also attract sweet strangers everywhere, so maybe we'll invite em off grid (online and off!). that's more my plan than expecting people from this network to show.

but we'll only be holding it down as long as we need, or as long as we are needed, and most likely heading south again in 2-3 weeks; if nobody else shows up, or takes over, well, I guess we were only camping; but we're willing to leave stuff behind, help acquire supplies, &etc, to make it work; would love a kewl camp to come back to

we currently have to drive about 20+ miles for internet, but there may be closer in Blue River, OR; we do have a cell phone w/data, but no service on the mountain (have not tried hiking to highest point yet); we'll probably be in Eugene, Saturday

UPDATE

In Oregon now, my crew and I have encamped by a fabulous hot spring at Cougar Reservoir - natural, very hot (with decreasing temperature pools), very low or no sulfur, an easy ride from Eugene

our "campsite" is great, it's big and surrounded by tall trees but open wide at the top to sunlight, and backed by a 40-50 foot tall rock wall like an amphiteater, behind which is open, moss-covered forest; lake and hot springs walkable; we'd love some company!

nomadageddon is the intended name of an sbot application for offering and finding sanctuaries in your networks... whether it's a house, land, a rental, a van, or sweet natural living. I might be able to sit back and code this piece soon, now that i have found sanctuary (one that isn't a desert in the summer)

the current encampment is a trial attempt at creating and offering a nomad sanctuary. a sanctuary is a safe place to be free. the current plan is to get more people and supplies coming through, and try to get it going "autonomously"

nomads in the network: welcome

locals in the network, if you're looking for a cheap thrill, pack up some useful items, and come visit - the hot spring is worth it, and the jams.

this is potentially easy free living in a very sweet environment, and it would be extra sweet to squat the nearby sites for nomads as well, for teh community, and parties, comrade!

we have a van, tools, cooking supplies, and music gear :^P

nature and nearby towns offer everything else a body needs; i can pick up in Eugene; PM for info

pass it on - i'll probably check

They got it all wrong. Merit is not the meeting of some standard, merit is not the bar, Merit the thing a person has. Lots of people "have" the ability to meet standards (one kind of merit, suppose), whether they learned it a la standardized test preparation, or were born with it, in which case the standard is obviously flawed by class.

the issue is not with merit, although there are certainly conditions where it should not be a consideration

but the tech industry's divine meritocracy is simply a corny way of defending privileged norms, and a weak, humblebraggish self-annointment for any who "make it"

Re: %2HRdN2NDO

continued...

We talk of Nazi's and Musolini...

At another turn, the cop rather patronizingly suggests maybe I shouldn't be enjoying the beach and sun, the beer, the marijuana in my possession, until I set myself up legit - I tell him I have skills, am gonna come back money rich, sleep in my van anyway, that next time they'll have to drag me away in a white suit, and then I'll challenge the law in my case; half promise, half threat... see how money goes.

I probably was never in much "danger" but my previous experience and vulnerability makes me defensive - I'm more accustomed to Chicago and Oakland police ;^P

I mean, getting busted for not having a DL or registration is a nuisance I could do without, but I don't have the means to rectify this at the moment, yet I need to drive to get food, and escape the high heat and be alive.

but the kicker was the officer's gambit "you're being detained"... referring to a "Citation in Lieu of Arrest".

I followed up on this, and the law in question (sleeping) is an infraction, not a crime. I don't think one can be arrested for an infraction, only ticketed; and according to above link, not giving ID is the way to circumvent such a Citation in the first place...?

So, I lost in giving over my ID, and for that I was a little sickened.

Yet, next thing you know, you're being arrested for resisting arrest, or obstruction, or some BS, and it's off to jail anyway and court to sort it through, and your shit gets confiscated... I mean, it's a possibility, I just hope to be ready to take it that far next time.

I was all about to quit the city then, after only two days vacay - then I met some decent folk on the beach, who gave me good info, and invited me over for a hot shower and showed me where to park. This renewed my spirit and I will be going to beach after I publish this log and will stay as long as comfortably possible.

@angel in #travailog

Day 3 from SoCal Beach Town

I'm on vacation from harsh climate and rough amenities in the high desert

The ocean water and beach clime are doing wonderful things to my hair and skin - actual goldilocks in effect rn, baby looks and feels beautiful

There are long stretches of beach here out of "official" view - the city's public park beaches are open 22 hours, closed only between 2 and 4 am; this area is basically southern california's 1960's LSD enclave; with good information and a few local friends, one can get by reasonably well here with a bike, tent and sleeping bag

If I had mobile internet and a small income, living out of the van between the 101 and Ocean, could be tops; I also need a driver's license, vehicle registration, and insurance - then we'd be untouchable

Except, down here, in beach town, it's "illegal" to sleep in your vehicle - a law the likes of which have already been struck down in nearby Los Angeles and other places, but in the richer cities the law stands un-protested, or un-challenged

Yesterday I moved my van to the parking area near the beach, free and open parking from 10am-5pm (no overnight parking), and camped there all day - biking around town and doing the beach

I sunned, and entered the ocean - I've always been afraid of the ocean, but am learning how not to get tumbled by waves, and having fun; now I'm looking at the surfers with envy, cuz one of my fave things in life is putting my body in rivers of high amplitude water flow; what i'm saying is, I may become a surfer

After sun and ocean, I retired to the van where I ate, painted my nails, drank a beer and lightly dozed off, breeze flowing thru the cab via the open back doors

One never knows how long one was asleep when it feels like it was only an instant; I couldn't have been out for more than 20, judging by the state of my brain when I was jostled awake by the local police - who of course are strapped to the balls in weapons and technology, now looming large over I in the opening of my van

Now, these trips are already risky on account of missing drivers credentials, registration, and insurance, so I do everything I can to keep some little thing from getting me caught up in a mess; to literally get caught napping, i can only shake my damn head

Also, I have police trauma - guns, illegal arrests, protest scenarios with militarized, grenade-launching "security forces" giving chase

in the USA, there are two types of people, those who never have to deal with police (but will call them), and those who do have to deal with police (but never call); I am in the latter group, it's pretty much related to economic class, as being poor is a crime as soon as you can't afford basic legitimacy; that's how a broken parking light (the yellow ones) can lead to a black person being shot and killed - they call these "routine traffic" stops "gone wrong"... it's a routine for some folk, not just the police.

so, Officer So 'n So asks for driver license, etc

I know I wasn't asleep long, because, jolted as I was from the precipice of what would have been an awesome, perhaps perfect, siesta, the jolt was into a lucid wakefulness, and I was ready to be precise and dodgy as fuck without thinking; I wasn't operating the vehicle, so I'm off the hook for the vehicle itself, i'm just sleeping in it...

First thing I say is "i am advised not to answer any questions" and told him I wasn't giving over an ID, what now? I wouldn't follow that advice completely, but it's good advice, as you can only get in trouble talking to police - they pretend it's a cool convo, but any info you willingly give, even pre-miranda, can be used against you (see "You Have The Right To Remain Innocent" by James J. Duane) - save your fifth amendment right for court, all you can do before then is stay quiet and demand a lawyer

Officer Rejoinder: you're being detained for sleeping in your vehicle, how about that? and says he can give me a ticket if I like, or I can give ID, suggesting no ticket if I comply

this right here "you're being detained"

laying in the back of a van, freshly painted nails and glowing curly hair, clad in a skimpy bathing suit, looking up at officer nice guy... I'm alone, i have no money, no phone, no backup - in a word, I am vulnerable

do I push it and trade curse and incantations for a ticket? normally, yes. but what push for ID will happen then? what if I continue to refuse? I am a radical lab mouse in these circumstances...

My position wasn't that bad, seemingly, so I give an old passport - I'm simply trying to keep the van from being towed on account of the lack of registration, insurance, DL; because that would be hella inconvenient - idgaf about losing the van per se, or fines, but I don't want to get stranded, though there are worse places it could happen

i give an old passport, and Offsir is induced to run as much background check as they can, thinking my behavior might be that of a criminal on the loose going by other names and fake IDs

while that is going on, we have a conversation, starting with this bullshit law about sleeping in yr vehicle, or anywhere under the sun - at this point I am breaking the rule of maintaining innocent silence, but when ur vulnerable, you may have to use other tactics, abstract shit...

My main line was that this encounter is bullshit, because if there was any humanity, we wouldn't be talking, I laying dog could sleep, and that his approach was probably not warranted at all, possibly having entered my van without cause (to tap me awake they opened a half-door).

Officer says it's his friendly duty and job to go around checking on people and conversing with them while upholding the law - I suggest it is more a privilege to approach people and assume things; Dutyman gives me the look - no, driving and using the roads is a privilege, et cetera, which is bullshit because you can barely do anything without roads and vehicles; roads are a 2D cage around society, yet it is legally a privilege to use them, cuz public property... it's the same logic that bicyclists use against cars and parking, but it's the same liberal-rights regulatory reasoning that maintains this systematically legal hellscape

I tell Officer the sleeping law has been defeated in other courts already; response: the law is alive and well here in beachtown; I ask where the humanity is? He says he's "just enforcing the laws" or some similar phrase, the line you should always get police to say, so you can ask, as I did, if your captor has read or heard of "The Banality of Evil"?

"Is that some philosophy" asks? This cop actually didn't seem like your average dumb linebacker, probably a Decent Guy and not a total idiot, but these words do set him back, don't they?

Clamoring not to lose intellectual fingerhold, he quickly adds that what he reads is the BIG book they give him (laws), indicating book size with hands

as I had won the ethical high ground by now, I bring up the other big book, the bible, as nobody in the USA, not even california's soulless and spiritually devoid conservative liberal, is willing to denounce the bible; cuz Jesus, like childhood trauma, yet terrorizes they heart

(Forgive Jesus, and cast Christianity out of your Heart)

He says he reads bible too, time to time (probably a lie), from which I surmise that he can read big books; I say so, with a sassy lick of humor (not sarcasm)

I explain the gist of "Banality of Evil"; and, looking up from my submissive, languorous repose, I give Mr Officer the look, deep in the eyes, and say it is well and good of people in positions of power to get some philosophy in them

i am knob / dial aficionado, it's a digital interface component I use a lot. I prefer the type that don't have a start or stop to them. just last night I think I perfected the spin logic for my auto-interface dial component, the action has never been so smooth.

I agree. That is the main reason why I don't partake much in social networks, or why I fail at getting much use or satisfaction from them - a self-conscious feedback storm erupts if I try, and my avatar, until deletion, becomes a kind of anti-identity, a blur of self, a silhouette, an obfuscation.

I am designing dex apps to have simple sign-in, so a uxer can control their network identity. Here testing a qr code scanner for exactly the purpose.

If your opponent attempts the reversecounterdisintermediationist, you should multiply they second derivative by the integral of yall efforts. You must do this immediately, without hesitation - without thinking! So much for judo.

Re: %lO8g1W1z6

similar to how application designs are following the post-type pattern, I see the same for bots (pubs), where post-types are commands from its uxers - host a blob, or seed a torrent, or relay a signal, or aggregate some logs... whether it runs on a home computer via proxy, or directly in the public cloud, is a matter of individual / group requirements, but might as well be technically indistinct.

pubs as proxies? that's a great idea!
